HelpLayer vs Intercom

Intercom is a customer service platform built around the Fin AI agent: a shared inbox, tickets, the Messenger and a help center. HelpLayer is the help center that keeps itself up to date: when your product changes, it writes the update to the article and its video, for you to approve.

WHERE INTERCOM IS AHEAD

  • A real inbox, tickets and live chat, which HelpLayer doesn't do.
  • Fin answers on chat, email, phone, WhatsApp and SMS, and can take actions in your other systems.
  • Messages, banners and product tours inside your app.
  • Fin can also run on top of another helpdesk.

WHERE HELPLAYER IS AHEAD

  • Watches your code and pages, and writes the article update without being asked; you approve it.
  • Makes the narrated video and the click-through demo from each article.
  • One flat price with AI answers included, and a free plan.
  • llms.txt and a public MCP server, so any AI assistant can read your help center.

QUESTIONS

HelpLayer vs Intercom: questions

Can HelpLayer replace Intercom?

It replaces Intercom's help center and Fin's answers on it. It doesn't replace the inbox or live chat: questions HelpLayer can't answer go to your support email.

Can I keep Intercom's Messenger and use HelpLayer for the help center?

Yes. Keep Intercom for conversations and use HelpLayer as the help center: link to it from the Messenger, and set HelpLayer's contact email to your Intercom inbox address so questions the AI can't answer arrive there.

How does HelpLayer know an article is out of date?

You connect an article to its sources: a GitHub repository or a web page, like your pricing page or changelog. When they change, HelpLayer works out which articles the change touches, writes the update to the text and the video, and waits for your approval.

What does an AI answer cost?

In Intercom, Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, such as a resolved conversation, on top of the seat price. In HelpLayer, AI answers are included in the plan.
