What Ricordo reads and what stays on your iPhone
How Ricordo uses your photo library, what never leaves your device, and what goes online.
Ricordo builds your atlas on your iPhone. Here's what it reads, what it keeps to itself, and what goes online.
What Ricordo reads
When and where each photo was taken, to sort your photos into countries, cities and trips.
What's in your photos: scenes, faces and the barcode on boarding passes. This is all worked out on your iPhone.
Ricordo never copies, edits or uploads your photos. They stay in Photos.
What never leaves your iPhone
Your photos, unless you choose to share one.
Faces and the names you give people. They're never shared, not in links and not in postcards.
What Search and Clean up find.
There's no account to use Ricordo, and no tracking.
What goes online
Place names from Apple Maps: the middle of each place, rounded to about 1 km, once per place. You can turn this off.
The map you see on the Map tab.
Weather, place stories and Look Around, only if you turn them on in Settings → Internet extras.
Your edits, if iCloud sync is on. They're kept in your own iCloud, which only your Apple ID can read.
Discover's guides and videos, which load from Ricordo's help center when you open it.
Only when you share
Sharing a trip as a link, postcards and Together need Sign in with Apple, and Ricordo doesn't get your email address. Only what you choose to share leaves your iPhone: photos are resized and sent without their hidden details, and places are shared roughly, as a city. You can stop sharing any time.
Tip: Open Settings → Internet extras to see each switch, and exactly what it sends and to whom.
